Artist Statement {...among other things}
My work exists in the space between structure and spontaneity, where portraiture, storytelling, and social commentary intersect with raw, textural experimentation. As WAXPIGEON, I use a mix of printmaking, illustration, and mixed media to create visual narratives that blend abstract and surreal elements with fragments of personal reflection.
Portrait drawings and paintings form a key part of my practice, capturing expressions and emotions that feel both intimate and universal. These figures often emerge from layered compositions, interacting with symbols, distorted forms, and elements of urban decay. My zines serve as an extension of this—self-contained worlds of fragmented stories, visual chaos, and commentary on the absurdities of modern life.
I am inspired by the ephemeral nature of street art, the way images are built up, torn down, and reassembled over time. This informs my approach—embracing imperfection, allowing accidents to shape the outcome, and constantly questioning what is permanent and what is fleeting.
Through my work, I seek to challenge perceptions, spark dialogue, and create a space where the personal collides with the collective—where the past, present, and imagined future meet in unexpected ways.
